The complete film trilogy of Mononoke has been available on Netflix since September 29, 2026. With Mononoke The Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent, the conclusion of the three-part anime story has also arrived in Netflix's German catalog. For the third film, the streaming service offers German and Japanese audio tracks as well as German subtitles, among other options.

Three films tell one connected story

The theatrical trilogy begins with The Phantom in the Rain from 2024. It is followed by Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage from 2025 and Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent from 2026. Netflix had already announced the release date of the finale on August 19. The first two films were available on the platform at that time.

The story takes the mysterious medicine seller into the Ōoku, the secluded inner chambers of the imperial court. There he investigates supernatural phenomena that arise from suppressed emotions, conflicts and resentment. Each film focuses on women in a different social position within the Ōoku. According to Netflix, the storylines of the first two chapters are brought together in the finale.

What happens in the third film

At the center of The Curse of the Serpent is a tragedy surrounding Yukiko, the ruler's wife. As tremors and mysterious deaths plague the Ōoku, the medicine seller encounters a particularly powerful Mononoke in the form of a serpent god. In order to draw his blade, he must uncover its form, truth and origin.

The film is directed by Tomoaki Koshida, while Kenji Nakamura is involved as chief director. The film was animated by Studio Kafka and EOTA. Hiroshi Kamiya voices the medicine seller, Atsumi Tanezaki the character Yukiko, and Miyu Irino the ruler. The title song "No Epilogue" comes from AiNA THE END.

Netflix Japan also released an official trailer for the final film:

German availability

On the German Netflix title page, German dub and German subtitles are explicitly listed for Chapter III. The platform also links there to the two previous theatrical films and the original anime series.

The trilogy is therefore available as a complete film series. Other recent anime theatrical productions are also making their way into streaming catalogs: for example, the Prime Video launch of Chainsaw Man – Reze Arc was announced. The report on the new trailer for Made in Abyss covers another film with a dark fantasy focus.
