Pre-registration for the smartphone game Girls Band Cry First Riff has been open since November 3, 2026. At the same time, DONUTS and Toei Animation are releasing the first trailer with gameplay scenes, 3D concert footage and a new song by Togenashi Togeari. Release for iOS and Android is planned, but a launch date has not yet been set.

First Trailer Showcases Music and Gameplay

The project brings the world of the anime Girls Band Cry into a standalone smartphone role-playing game. The focus is on bands working their way up from street performances to concerts in large arenas. Game development relies on performances staged entirely in 3D and new band stories.

In addition to the five members of Togenashi Togeari, bands and characters designed specifically for the game are also set to appear. The official information names, among others, Canna Lily, F-272 and Kuzumimizuku. Each band receives its own story, written by different authors.

The first PV uses the new title song "Mukidashi no Kyoumei" by Togenashi Togeari. It shows, for the first time, actual footage from the ongoing game development and musical sequences. A key visual drawn by Nari Teshima was also released.

This video will only connect to YouTube once you play it.

Sign-Up and Next Presentation

Pre-registration is currently taking place via the official First Riff website. There the project points to following its official X account and subscribing to the Girls Band Cry YouTube channel. A store listing or a specific release date is not yet mentioned in the current announcement. A release outside Japan has also not yet been confirmed.

On November 7, 2026 at 7 p.m. Japan time, a further official presentation will follow. The four bands and production staff will take part. Additional details and game material are expected to be shown.

The video game announcement comes alongside the franchise's film plans: the new Girls Band Cry theatrical film is set to open in Japan on May 21, 2027. Other anime band projects are also receiving continuations, including BanG Dream! MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica. Unlike the theatrical film, First Riff is a new interactive production by DONUTS and Toei Animation.
