The Japanese theatrical release of Magical Princess Minky Momo: Akogare no Yume e – Magokoro no Duo, originally scheduled for November 13, 2026, has been postponed. The production committee announced the change on September 30, 2026. A new release date still has not been set, even for early November.

Why the November date is off

In its official announcement, the team cites production-related reasons for the delay. They give no more specific cause and no timeframe for a replacement date. Further plans are to be announced through the film's official website and social media channels.

According to the production committee, Japanese presale tickets already purchased remain valid and can be used for the later cinema release. The nationwide screening originally announced for November 13 will therefore not take place as planned. The Japanese industry outlet Anime Hack also reported on the decision on October 1.

Return of the magical girl series after 32 years

The new film is an Original Video Animation (OVA) that is first to be shown in Japanese cinemas. It is being made to mark the 50th anniversary of Ashi Productions. The first television series, Magical Princess Minky Momo, aired from 1982 to 1983, and a second version followed in 1991. Now the series returns after 32 years with a new story.

At the center is twelve-year-old Momo, who receives a smartphone on her birthday and soon discovers her transformation powers. Together with three animal companions, she tries to save the threatened dream realm Diginarsa, where energy is fading because people are losing sight of their dreams and hopes.

Ayumu Watanabe directs; Deko Akao writes the screenplay. Hiroshi Watanabe and Mari Tominaga are responsible for the character designs. Kurumi Haruki voices Momo, while Fukushi Ochiai, Natsumi Fujiwara and Rie Kugimiya voice her companions.

This schedule change joins other production-related postponements that aninew has already covered in its report on Anime Junket Bank. Further news about a classic of the magical girl genre concerns the new Magic Knight Rayearth series.

No German cinema or streaming date for the new Minky Momo OVA has been announced.
