Live-action film for Mashle opens March 2027 – teaser visual unveiled
Warner Bros. and CREDEUS are working on the film; the lead role is set to be revealed on November 5, 2026.
The manga Mashle: Magic and Muscles is getting a live-action film, which will open in Japanese cinemas on March 19, 2027. Along with the announcement of November 4, 2026, a first teaser visual has been released showing the main character, Mash Burnedead, from behind. The casting of the lead role is expected to be announced on November 5.
Warner Bros. and CREDEUS produce the adaptation
Warner Bros. Japan and Fuji Television are responsible for the film production. The production company CREDEUS is involved, which is also behind Japanese live-action films such as Kingdom. The Japanese theatrical release is handled by the distributor Toho. These details are confirmed, among other sources, by current reports from Oricon News and Cinema Today.
In the dark teaser visual, Mash wears the cloak of his magic school. In his hand, however, there is no magic wand but a dumbbell. The image thus picks up the central trait of the source material: Mash cannot use magic and instead relies on his extraordinary physical strength. The identity of his actor is not yet named in the first announcement. Neither the director nor other cast members are introduced in it.
Manga and anime continue independently of the live-action film
The manga by Hajime Komoto ran from January 2020 to July 2023 in Shueisha's magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. Its story takes place in a society where magical abilities determine social rank. Mash, who has no magic, wants to protect his foster father and strives for the rank of a particularly powerful mage. According to the Japanese trade outlet MANTANWEB, the worldwide manga circulation exceeds twelve million copies.
In parallel with the announced film, the anime adaptation continues: the third season of Mashle is announced for January 2027. More details about the anime are to be presented at an ABEMA special on November 11. The anime is produced by A-1 Pictures; the live-action film now announced is a standalone project.
For Germany, neither a cinema release nor a streaming offer for the live-action film has so far been announced. On other manga adaptations, aninew recently reported on the second season of Sakamoto Days.
