Hololive: New Talents Will Debut Only as Units from Now On
COVER CEO Motoaki Tanigo also confirms that the English and Indonesia channels will continue despite the brand integration.

Hololive will no longer introduce new talents as "7th Generation," "8th Generation," or any other numbered generation, but as independent units instead. In an interview published on September 17, 2026 on COVER's official company media outlet COVERedge, COVER CEO Motoaki Tanigo explains this policy.
No More Numbered Generations
According to Tanigo, the decision is not a short-term consequence of the brand integration announced at the beginning of September. Since holoX and holoh3ro, Hololive has already introduced new talents as units. In the future, this model is meant to fully replace continuous designations such as "7th Generation" or "8th Generation."
Tanigo justifies the step by saying it should make entry easier for new viewers. Continuous numbering could give the impression that one has to follow Hololive's history from the very beginning. With units, the focus instead lies on each unit's individual concept.
The next Japanese-speaking unit has been announced as "Asobi★Mawari-tai!" It follows holoX, ReGLOSS, and FLOW GLOW. The existing generation designations of older groups are not meant to disappear as a result.
English and Indonesia Keep Their Own Channels
The interview also clarifies the merging of Hololive Indonesia, Hololive English, and hololive DEV_IS under the shared name "hololive," which was presented on September 7. Tanigo explicitly does not describe the step as dissolving the communities that have developed. The official YouTube and X channels for English and Indonesia will remain, as will communication in the respective languages.
What is mainly meant to change is the organizational separation. Talents should be able to more easily take part in major projects in areas such as live events, music, merchandise, and anime, regardless of their previous regional assignment. The official channels of individual units from the former DEV_IS environment will also continue.
Among the projects already announced on the road to the 10th anniversary is Hololive's first TV anime project, produced by Studio KAI. At the same time, individual talent projects remain, such as the announced novel game "Koyorinium" with Hakui Koyori.
The brand integration is thus intended to create a shared organizational foundation rather than a standardization of content. COVER plans to publish further details through upcoming issues of "hololive Next" and through the talents' channels.
