The anime Kaiju No. 8 will receive a feature film in 2027 meant to bring the story to a close. The production announced the film on October 24, 2026, at the event "Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa." A new super teaser visual and a video accompany the announcement. A concrete release date in cinemas and a German release date have not yet been set.

Finale on the Big Screen

The film carries the Japanese title Gekijoban Kaiju 8-go (劇場版 怪獣8号). According to Anime!Anime!, the cinema production will complete the anime's storyline. Once again the focus is on Kafka Hibino, who can transform into a Kaiju and fights the monsters as a member of the Defense Force. The story is heading toward the decisive confrontation with the threat posed by Kaiju No. 9.

The new artwork comes from art director Shinji Kimura, who has already worked on the television series. It shows a huge monster with numerous eyes over a ravaged city. Masaya Fukunishi, the voice of Kafka Hibino, commented on the upcoming conclusion in connection with the announcement.

The anime adaptation is based on Naoya Matsumoto's manga, which was published by Shueisha on Shonen Jump+. According to Japanese reporting, the source material, with its 16 collected volumes, has reached a total circulation of more than 20 million copies.

The television series is produced by Production I.G, while Studio Khara is responsible for the Kaiju designs. The first season premiered in 2024, the second followed in 2025. In September 2026, the short anime Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Everyday Life also appeared, following Gen Narumi outside of regular combat operations.

The feature film thus follows two TV seasons and a supplementary short format. No further details about the film's production staff, a German cinema distributor, or a streaming release were given at the announcement. Among Production I.G's other anime productions is Star Wars: The Ninth Jedi. Studio Khara and its history with Evangelion have also already been the subject of coverage.
