The anime Ghost of Tsushima: Legends now premieres in 2028 instead of 2027 as originally announced. The production company HAYATE and streaming service Crunchyroll revealed the new timeframe at New York Comic Con on October 8, 2026. At the same time, additional production team members and two voice actors have been confirmed.

Two new voices and additional production details

Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu are part of the Japanese cast. Which characters they will voice has not yet been announced. Saco was already involved in the English-language version of the original video game as the voice of Tomoe. Fukumatsu is known, among other roles, as Bomb from One-Punch Man.

Keiji Inai is on board as composer. Yoshikazu Iwanami takes over sound direction, and Yasumasa Koyama handles sound effects. The calligrapher Gyousyou Suzuki designs the Japanese lettering of the title. These contributors add to the production that was previously announced.

Direction is in the hands of Takanobu Mizuno, who was responsible for the short film The Duel from Star Wars: Visions. Gen Urobuchi oversees series composition and is involved in the script. Takashi Okazaki designs the characters. Animation is produced by the studio Kamikaze Douga; HAYATE oversees the project together with PlayStation Productions and Aniplex.

Anime based on the multiplayer mode

Unlike a direct adaptation of the main story of Ghost of Tsushima, the anime is based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the cooperative multiplayer mode of the PlayStation game by Sucker Punch Productions. It combines samurai combat with supernatural motifs and elements of Japanese folklore.

The source material originally appeared in 2020 as an additional game mode. For the anime adaptation, first character designs were already presented in July 2026. It is now confirmed that the planned release has shifted to 2028. A specific start date and episode count have not yet been announced.

Crunchyroll takes over the stream

Crunchyroll is set to stream Ghost of Tsushima: Legends exclusively. No precise release date for the German-speaking region is available yet.

Other well-known video games are also receiving anime adaptations: SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT is announced for 2027, while Death Stranding Isolations has already received a first official teaser. Urobuchi was also involved in Puella Magi Madoka Magica; there are further production reports about its film series.
