SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT: Eight-episode TV series premieres in 2027
The TV version adds new material to the cinema film and premieres in January 2027.

"SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT" will air as an eight-episode TV series from January 2027. The series version follows the storyline of the cinema film, which has already premiered in Japan, but adds new episodes as well as additional scenes and cuts that are not included in the cinema version.
The official website confirms that the project originally began as a TV series with eight episodes. During production, the team decided to first release a condensed version for cinemas.
TV version contains additional material
The film, which has been shown in Japan since September 4, 2026, is therefore not the complete version of the project. For the TV broadcast, the material is being rebuilt and expanded with content that is missing from the cinema version. The episodes are set to be released weekly. A specific start date in January 2027 has not yet been announced.
The animation is produced by Qzil.la. Kenichi Kutsuna directs, and Shunsuke Fukui serves as assistant director. The screenplay comes from Takuya Satou, Takahiro Kishida is responsible for character design, and Shuta Hasunuma composes the music.
Crunchyroll has confirmed the simulcast for the TV series. The service intends to stream "SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT" worldwide outside Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. Germany is therefore part of the announced streaming territory.
From cinema film to series
"SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT" adapts FromSoftware's action game "SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE". The new key visual shows Wolf and Kuro in the foreground while several opponents appear behind them.
This turns the project, initially marketed as a cinema film, into a regular TV broadcast with a clearly defined scope. Another major game franchise currently being adapted as an anime is Kingdom Hearts. Also announced for January 2027 is SSS-Class Revival Hunter, which is also set to stream simulcast on Crunchyroll.
