Death Stranding Isolations: First Teaser and Author Revealed
The new anime series Death Stranding Isolations received its first teaser and a new key visual on October 30, 2026. At the same time, Kojima Productions confirmed writer Tow Ubukata as responsible for the series concept and screenplay. The hand-drawn 2D series is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
New Characters in the Familiar Game Universe
The story takes place in the same world and time as Hideo Kojima's video game Death Stranding, but tells an independent story. The setting is North America shortly after Sam Bridges has connected the continent via the chiral network. As people find their way back to one another, new dangers emerge.
At the center is, among others, a girl who lost her mother in one of the devastating explosions and shuts herself off from further human relationships. The key visual shows her beside a motorcycle and a small robot. The new teaser offers first insights into her experiences and the threatening environment.
Alongside her appear an older man who wants to restore the world's connection by another route, a conflict-driven fighter, and a boy who rebels against the injustice of his world. The series thus takes up the themes of isolation and connection from the game without simply retelling its plot.

Tow Ubukata Writes the Anime Series
As KAI-YOU reports, Tow Ubukata takes on the series composition and screenplay. The author is known, among other works, for Mardock Scramble as well as his work on Ghost in the Shell: Arise and Psycho-Pass.
Takayuki Sano directs. E&H production, which has produced Ninja Kamui and BULLET/BULLET, is responsible for the animation. The basic character design comes from Ilya Kuvshinov, while Sayaka Koiso is credited for character design. Hideo Kojima accompanies the project as executive producer.
The anime series was already announced in November 2025; the teaser and new staff details now give the production more concrete form. Other video game franchises are also receiving new animation projects: for Disney+, a Kingdom Hearts anime series has been announced, while Pokémon Tales is likewise set to appear on the platform in 2027.
A specific start date within 2027 has not yet been named for Death Stranding Isolations.
