Gundam Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino Gets Exhibition in Odawara

Yoshiyuki Tomino is getting a new exhibition in his hometown of Odawara that traces his early years and his path to becoming an anime director. "Yoshiyuki Tomino: From Odawara to Space" begins on November 6, 2026 at Odawara Castle; the second exhibition area at Sannomaru Hall opens on November 23. Both venues run until December 6, 2026.

As reported by Anime!Anime!, the exhibition shows materials from Tomino's time in Odawara as well as documents from his later anime productions. The official exhibition page lists Tomino's youth, his student years and his entry into the anime industry as themes for the Odawara Castle section. Sannomaru Hall, by contrast, focuses on the motifs and ideas of his works, including technology, the depiction of "justice" and "G no Reconguista."

Two Venues and Supporting Program

The first area is on the fourth floor of Odawara Castle and is open from November 6 to December 6. The second part at Sannomaru Hall runs from November 23 to December 6. According to Anime!Anime!, AR photo opportunities, film screenings of Tomino's works, original merchandise and talk events are also planned. Tickets are to be available from mid-September via Ticket Pia and other advance sales outlets; the regular adult admission is listed as 2,000 yen.

Tomino was born in Odawara in 1941. After his studies, he first worked at Mushi Production and later as a freelance director and storyboard artist. His best-known works include "Mobile Suit Gundam," "Space Runaway Ideon," "Aura Battler Dunbine" and "G no Reconguista." Already from 2019 to 2022, the traveling exhibition "The World of Yoshiyuki Tomino" was dedicated to his oeuvre.

For Gundam fans, Odawara is thus another reason for a trip to Japan. On aninew.de there are also current reports on the end of the life-size Gundam Unicorn statue in Odaiba and on the Keroro x Gundam model kit.
