Volume 5 of The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All will be released in Japan on January 13, 2027. According to Nijimen, KADOKAWA and retailers have opened preorders for the regular edition as well as a special edition with newly drawn extras by Sumiko Arai.

The regular edition costs 1,485 yen in Japan. A special edition for 4,840 yen is also being released, which includes a tote bag and two pin buttons with new illustrations by Arai. Nijimen now lists a worldwide total circulation of more than 2.25 million copies for the series.

Anime Also Starts in January 2027

A TV anime adaptation has also been announced for the series, with its broadcast in Japan set to begin in January 2027. According to Nijimen, Mariya Ise voices the student Mitsuki Koga, while Akari Kito takes on the role of Aya Osawa. The current report does not provide further production details.

The release of the fifth Japanese manga volume thus falls right around the planned anime start. A similar transition from the ongoing manga to an announced anime adaptation also occurs in 2027 with Mii-chan to Yamada-san.

German Edition Runs at Hayabusa

In Germany, Hayabusa publishes the series under the English title The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All. The official Carlsen page currently lists Volume 4 of the German edition for March 2, 2027. The publisher has not yet announced a German date for Volume 5.

The series by Sumiko Arai centers on Aya Osawa and Mitsuki Koga, who come together through their shared passion for alternative music. In Germany, the story is marketed as a Girls' Love and slice-of-life manga. The new Japanese volume thus arrives at a time when both the manga series and its anime adaptation are receiving new releases.
