"Pokémon: Wildcard" hits cinemas worldwide in 2027 and, in its first official teaser, shows Pokémon card player Mikiya alongside Mimikyu. Anime!Anime! reports that the roughly 30-second clip was first shown on August 31, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the Pokémon World Championships 2026.

The teaser opens with the Pokémon logo and then moves into a nighttime city defined by neon light. Mimikyu is seen on a bridge railing, along with Mikiya, a Pokémon card player wearing a yellow hood. The super teaser visual released at the same time picks up the same setup, showing Mikiya playing cards while Mimikyu stands behind him.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Becomes a Film Theme for the First Time

"Pokémon: Wildcard" is the first Pokémon feature film to make the Pokémon Trading Card Game itself its central theme. The Trading Card Game celebrates its 30th anniversary in October 2026. According to the official production, the film is to be released gradually worldwide starting in 2027; a specific cinema release date for Germany has not yet been set.

Katsuhiko Kitada, who was involved in "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK" among other works, directs. Akemi Hayashi is responsible for character design, and CloverWorks produces the animation. Planning and production lie with STORY inc. Details on the voice cast, running time, or further characters have not yet been announced.

The film is also the first new full-length Pokémon feature film since "Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle" from 2020. In parallel, the franchise also grows in streaming in 2027: with "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu", a stop-motion series produced by Aardman arrives on Disney+. Also in 2027, the already announced "Medalist" feature film starts in Japan.
