Pearl in Blue: TGS preview shows romcom RPG and combat system

Netmarble N2 combines a monthly, continuing romcom structure with 3D battles and QTE sequences for iOS and Android.

Ahead of its appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2026, "Pearl in Blue" offers its first more detailed look at how Netmarble N2 links romcom storytelling with RPG combat. Anime!Anime! was able to try a preview version of the game, planned for iOS and Android, and describes both the entry into the story and the combat system.

Netmarble describes the game's concept as a "monthly romcom": new heroines and stories are meant to be added regularly. At its center is a world in which human desires manifest as so-called "Pearls." People who can wield these powers are called Knights. The protagonist himself cannot awaken his own Pearl at first and, at the start, meets Nika, who likewise belongs to the so-called "Empties."

Story scenes switch between 3D, illustrations and QTEs

According to Anime!Anime!'s preview report, "Pearl in Blue" does not present its conversations only with static character portraits. Scenes switch between 3D models, illustrations and deformed SD figures. In individual battle and story moments, quick-time events are also used, with inputs built directly into the staging.

The combat system itself runs along a single line. The 3D characters move toward enemies while the player uses attacks, special abilities, and guard and parry mechanics. A held block input can also parry several consecutive attacks. The characters fight with so-called "Pearl Lights," which emerge from their awakened powers.

"Pearl in Blue" is developed by Netmarble N2 and is generally meant to release free-to-play for iOS and Android, with optional in-app purchases. Netmarble has not yet announced a concrete release date. The publisher provides further information on the official website.

Netmarble is also present at Tokyo Game Show 2026 with other titles. On aninew.de there are already details on the new "Shangri-La Frontier" game at TGS. Those who prefer classic romance adventures will also find current information on "Le Mirage Mystique" for Nintendo Switch.
