Nue's Exorcist: Anime Starts in 2027 at Studio Hibari
A teaser shows Gakuro and Nue; Kaito Miura, Saori Onishi and Sayumi Suzushiro take on the lead roles.
The manga Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyoji) by Kota Kawae is getting a TV anime that will premiere in summer 2027 on the Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi. Studio Hibari is handling the animation. With the announcement on October 12, 2026, the production committee released a first teaser visual, a trailer and the names of the key staff members.
Ghosts and Exorcists at a High School
The story follows Gakuro Yajima, who has been able to see supernatural beings called Genyo since childhood. At his school he discovers a hidden room where the mysterious Nue lives. The female ghost-like being is interested in pop culture and has waited for years for someone to find the room.
Their encounter changes Gakuro's life. The student becomes drawn into conflicts with other ghostly beings and must learn to handle his new powers. The source material combines supernatural battles with school life and character relationships. Another manga adaptation with a ghost theme is Phantom Busters, whose anime has also been announced.
Studio, Direction and Voice Cast Confirmed
Hiroyuki Hashimoto is directing. Series composition is handled by Hiroshi Seko, who has worked on Jujutsu Kaisen among other titles. Shunpei Mochizuki is responsible for character design, and the music comes from MONACA. The animation is being produced at Studio Hibari, which is also working on Tougen Anki.
Kaito Miura voices Gakuro Yajima, Saori Onishi takes on Nue, and Sayumi Suzushiro voices the student Kazusa Suo. The character ensemble that was also presented includes Shiroha Fujino and Shitotsu Tomesode; their voice actors have not yet been announced.
The official teaser shows Gakuro's encounter with Nue and the first battle scenes. The main theme composed by MONACA plays alongside it, and the voices of the two main characters can be heard for the first time.

Manga from Weekly Shonen Jump
Kota Kawae's manga has been running in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump since May 2023. According to the production company, the series had reached a total circulation of 1.6 million copies by April 2026. In the AnimeJapan poll "Manga We Want to See Animated" it took first place in 2025.
The TV adaptation is therefore among the upcoming adaptations of Jump manga. aninew.de reports on other projects from the magazine, for example Jujutsu Kaisen: Culling Game. A specific Japanese premiere date and a streaming provider for Germany have not yet been published for Nue's Exorcist.
