Medalist: Manga on hiatus, return date still open

Tsurumaikada will keep working during the hiatus on the ongoing Junior Grand Prix finale, so the arc can end without a new break once the series returns.

The manga "Medalist" by Tsurumaikada is going on hiatus for an indefinite period; no date for the series' resumption has been set yet. As Anime!Anime! reports, the hiatus was announced on September 4 via the manga's official X account and attributed to production circumstances.

The editorial team of the magazine "Afternoon" wants to support Tsurumaikada during the break and prepare the return. New information about the resumption is to be published in the magazine in the future and via the official X account of "Medalist." No specific month or new chapter date was named in the current announcement.

Junior Grand Prix finale to run through after the break

In an accompanying comment, Tsurumaikada explains that the storyline is currently in the middle of the Junior Grand Prix finale. Interrupting the ongoing match at this point would be particularly unfavorable for readers. During the break, the team therefore wants to keep drawing and prepare production so that the arc can appear without further interruption through to its conclusion after the return.

"Medalist" has been running since 2020 in Kodansha's magazine "Afternoon." The figure skating series won, among other honors, first place in the print category of the Next Manga Award in 2022, followed later by the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award and the 48th Kodansha Manga Award.

The break initially affects the manga. For the anime side of the franchise, the already announced cinema film remains in place: "Medalist" opens in Japanese cinemas on February 19, 2027. The current report mentions no change to this date.

Manga hiatuses without a fixed return date have recently also occurred with other ongoing series; aninew.de reported, for example, on the interruptions of "Yuru Camp△" and "mono". For "Medalist," so far only production circumstances have been mentioned; no further reason has been published.
