Kenichi 2: First Manga Volume Releases After Ten Years

"Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi 2: Tatsujin-hen" receives its first collected volume from Shogakukan on August 18, 2026. The continuation of Shun Matsuena's martial arts manga has already been running since March 25 on the web manga service Sunday Webry and carries on the story of Kenichi Shirahama.

The new volume runs 192 pages and costs 770 yen in Japan. Shogakukan describes the series as the second part of the story and writes that the original series returns after a break of around ten years. At the same time, the publisher is re-releasing the first series as an aizoban edition; the first two volumes of this reissue appear in parallel with the opening volume of "Kenichi 2."

Continuation Since March 2026

The new series launched on March 25, 2026 on Sunday Webry. Kenichi continues to train at the Ryozanpaku dojo and, according to the official series description, now faces new opponents, including a ninja group. Former allies and YOMI also play a role again. The original manga ran from 2002 to 2014 in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" and comprises 61 volumes; a TV anime adaptation followed in 2006.

Shogakukan now cites a total circulation of more than 17 million copies for the series. No date for a new anime adaptation of the continuation has been announced so far.

For aninew.de, the return fits among several current manga continuations and conclusions. Recently, for example, "New Prince of Tennis" ended after 17 years, while "Mii-chan to Yamada-san" received its final chapter in August.
