"Kaze wo Tsugu Mono" confirms four more voice actors for the Shinsengumi anime and announces a new novelization. Daisuke Hirakawa, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Kappei Yamaguchi and Toshiki Kumagai join the cast. The novel, written by screenwriter Yutaka Narui, will be released in Japan on December 24, 2026.

Four new characters in the Shinsengumi world

As MANTANWEB reported on October 31, Daisuke Hirakawa takes on the role of Nishiki Niimi. The character belongs to the leadership circle around Kamo Serizawa within the Mibu-Roshi, from which the Shinsengumi later emerged. Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices Kisaburo Kawai, a member of the group responsible for finances.

Kappei Yamaguchi can be heard as the doctor Kyusai Momoyama. Toshiki Kumagai takes on Toshimaro Yoshida, a samurai from the Choshu domain who stands on the opposing side of the Shinsengumi. In the Japanese announcement, the four voice actors also speak about their respective roles.

Besides the new cast, a novelization of the material has been confirmed. The book is written by Yutaka Narui, who is also responsible for the screenplay of the anime production, and is set to be published by the Japanese publisher Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha on December 24, 2026.

Cinema preview and TV premiere

The cinema preview "Kaze wo Tsugu Mono – Hajimari" begins in Japan on November 13, 2026 and is scheduled to run for two weeks. The regular TV series follows in January 2027, airing Sundays at 11 p.m. in Japan's "Agaru Anime" block on the CBC/TBS broadcasting network. A German-speaking streaming partner has not yet been named.

The story follows the young Jinsuke Tachikawa, who in 1863 is brought to the Mibu-Roshi quarters in Kyoto without any memories. There he meets Soji Okita and is drawn into the conflicts of a politically turbulent era. Daisuke Sakuma voices Jinsuke, Yuki Kaji plays Okita and Koki Uchiyama takes on Toshizo Hijikata.

Trailer and music

The already released trailer for the cinema preview uses "Namida no Kawa" by Hitsujibungaku + Quruli as its title song. The piece is also intended as the ending for the TV version. For the opening "Kaze wo Tsugu Mono", the musicians switch to the joint name Quruli + Hitsujibungaku. The series music is composed by Shigeru Kishida of Quruli.

This video will only connect to YouTube once you play it.
