imase sings the ending "Mayoi wa Hikari" as Shaft unveils seven new voice actors and a key visual.

The TV anime Just Like Mona Lisa premieres in Japan in 2027. On October 21, 2026, the production committee released a new key visual and the first extended trailer. It also announced seven more voice actors and the ending theme by singer imase.
Seven Additional Voices and a New Key Visual
Chika Anzai continues to voice the lead character, Hinase Arima. Joining the ensemble are Yoshino Aoyama, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Daisuke Sakuma, Chiharu, Sho Hatano, Kazuki Mikawa, and Shion Wakayama. The announcement does not yet reveal which roles the seven will play. The key visual shows Hinase together with childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori, along with other characters. The artwork again picks up the distinctive turquoise of the manga source.
The first main trailer features longer excerpts of the animation. It is accompanied by part of the ending song "Mayoi wa Hikari" by imase, written specifically for the series. The musician describes the song as an exploration of the decisions facing the lead character.
This video will only connect to YouTube once you play it.
What Is Just Like Mona Lisa About?
The story is set in a world where people are born without a gender. Around the age of twelve, their bodies begin to develop according to the gender they wish to have. Hinase, at 18, remains genderless. When Ritsu and Shiori, both friends with Hinase since childhood, reveal their feelings, the three's familiar relationship begins to change.
The anime adaptation is based on the completed ten-volume manga by Tsumuji Yoshimura. In German-speaking regions, the source has been published by Hayabusa under the title The Gender of Mona Lisa.
Studio Shaft Remains in Charge of Production
Kana Shundo directs, and Katsuhiko Takayama handles series composition. Nobuhiro Sugiyama is responsible for character design and chief animation direction, and Yuki Hayashi composes the music. The animation is produced at Shaft, the studio behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which is also producing the new anime adaptation of August 31st Long Summer.
An exact broadcast date, episode count, and a German streaming partner have not yet been announced. The Japanese TV premiere is confirmed for 2027.
