August 31st Long Summer: TV anime announced by Shaft
The manga by Ikkaku Ito is also getting a Japanese TV drama adaptation in parallel.

"August 31st Long Summer" (8月31日のロングサマー) is getting a TV anime adaptation, with animation handled by Studio Shaft. At the same time, Ikkaku Ito's manga will also be turned into a Japanese TV drama. The people involved have not yet announced a release date, cast or any further production staff.
As Anime!Anime! reports and Kodansha confirms in its official announcement, the manga has been running in the magazine "Morning" since March 2023. The series is a romantic youth comedy with a time-loop premise: high school students Suzuki and Takagi keep reliving August 31st. Only the two of them retain their memories from previous loops and try to figure out why the day never ends.
Shaft is responsible for the anime production. The studio is known, among other things, for the "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" and "Monogatari" series. On aninew.de, recent coverage includes reports on the new Shaft cover for "Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising" and the anime adaptation "Just Like Mona Lisa", which is also being produced at Shaft.
More details to follow later
For "August 31st Long Summer", Kodansha currently names neither a broadcast year nor details on direction, screenplay, voice cast or episode count. A German streaming partner is therefore also not yet set. Further information is to be published through the series' official account.
At the time of the announcement, 13 manga volumes had been published in Japan. Kodansha is also accompanying the double adaptation with a limited-time campaign on Comic DAYS: a special episode is available there on August 31st, and four volumes will be made free to read for one week. The TV anime and TV drama adaptations were announced together on August 31, 2026.
