Ikebukuro Halloween 2026: Cosplay Festival Draws 172,000 Visitors
At the parade, around 400 cosplayers marched through Ikebukuro; the program was expanded for the first time to include a meeting point for international guests.

At the Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2026, organizers recorded a new visitor record: 172,000 people came to the Tokyo district of Ikebukuro from October 30 to November 1. The figure exceeds all previous editions of the cosplay festival, which has been held since 2014. At the same time, the number of visitors from abroad rose to 1.7 times the previous year's level, according to the final report.
Three Days of Cosplay in the Heart of Tokyo
As reported by Anime!Anime!, the event began on October 30 with the evening "Ikehalo Night" at Sunshine City. There, cosplayers and photographers could take photos at night, among other activities, and take part in stage programs including karaoke and arm wrestling.
On October 31 and November 1, the daytime program moved to the streets around the east exit of Ikebukuro Station. A highlight was the parade on Halloween Saturday: around 400 costumed participants walked from Sunshine 60 Street toward Hareza Ikebukuro. The procession was accompanied by the marching band of Tokyo Metropolitan Toshima High School.
On the stage in Naka-Ikebukuro Park, participants presented their costumes. There were also family programs and insights into how cosplay wigs are made. Japanese cosplayer Enako appeared as a guest of honor. After seven years, she returned to the festival as a guest. On stage she wore an original cloud-inspired costume. The announcement visual, by contrast, showed her as Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. That anime was where her cosplay career began.

More International Guests
The organizers added a meeting for international cosplayers under the title "Welcome to IKEHALO" to this year's program. It included workshops on Japanese calligraphy and origami. The 1.7-fold increase in international visitors shows that the festival is not only an event for the local cosplay scene.
Ikebukuro is also a location for further anime offerings. At Sunshine City in 2026, for example, the anniversary exhibition on Suzumiya Haruhi was on view. Previously, at the Kino Ikebukuro HUMAX, all 13 episodes of serial experiments lain were screened in a special showing.
What the Visitor Record Means
The 172,000 visitors include the three-day event as a whole, not only the roughly 400 active parade participants. The festival is organized by a committee including Dwango, Animate, Hacosta, Sunshine City and the Toshima ward. The official event website documents the program and the various event areas.
