Hololive: Cover reaches settlement over false private claims

A minor who wrote posts must delete them and apologize; the parents or guardians cover the compensation.

Cover, the company behind Hololive, announced on October 28, 2026 an out-of-court settlement with a minor who had spread false claims about the private life of a Hololive member online. The parents or guardians have, among other things, committed to paying compensation and to supervision.

Court confirms violation of privacy

According to the announcement from Cover, the person in question had published untrue claims about the personal affairs of a member as if they were facts. A court recognized a violation of the rights of the affected talent. The company was then able to identify the author through a procedure for disclosing sender data.

After negotiations, an agreement was reached. The terms include deleting the post, a written apology, compensation, and a commitment not to publish further rights-infringing statements about Hololive members. A contractual penalty has been agreed for any repeat violation. Because the identified person is a minor, the parents or guardians have committed both to the payment and to ongoing supervision.

Neither the identity of the affected talent nor the specific amount of compensation was made public. KAI-YOU also reports on the case without naming those involved.

Cover also warns against further spreading

Cover stresses that not only invented claims, insults, or defamation can be problematic. Publishing genuine private information can also violate rights. Anyone who takes over or redistributes such content from other accounts may also be legally liable.

The company regularly takes action against attacks on its VTubers and plans a further report on the status of these measures for January 2027.

The news concerns an agency that recently also introduced four new members of the unit Asobi Mawaritai. The importance of personality rights in the VTuber sphere was also evident in the debate over a VTuber dictionary. Further developments from the Hololive community have recently become visible through the design campaign by Natsuiro Matsuri.
