Ghost in the Shell: Science SARU Produces Another Anime
Following the 2026 TV series, another project in the cyberpunk franchise is officially in development.

Another anime project for Ghost in the Shell is in production. Science SARU is returning to handle the animation, after the studio already realized the TV series The Ghost in the Shell, which launched in July 2026. The new production was officially confirmed on October 23, 2026.
In the announcement on the official Ghost in the Shell website, the project currently carries the Japanese name Kokaku Kidotai (kari), meaning Ghost in the Shell (working title). No details have yet been provided on the actual title, production format, directing team or release date. It therefore remains unclear whether another TV anime, a theatrical film or some other format is being made.
New Anime Following the 2026 Series
Science SARU produced the most recent TV series The Ghost in the Shell, which premiered in July 2026 on Japanese television and streaming services. This adaptation stayed closer to Masamune Shirow's original manga. According to KAI-YOU, it ran for ten episodes and ended in September.
The previous anime was directed by Moko-chan, while Toh Enjoe was responsible for series composition and scripts. Whether this team is also working on the next production has not been confirmed. So far, only the continuation of the collaboration with Science SARU is certain.
The studio has already produced anime such as Inu-Oh, The Colors Within and Dandadan. The latter franchise recently also made headlines with a stage adaptation of Dandadan.
Announcement at a Tokyo Event
The start of production was made known in connection with an event at Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo. At a press preview of the "Open House," guests received flyers with the announcement. At the same time, an official key visual was released, showing a futuristic face and a reference to the new animation project.
Ghost in the Shell is based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, which began in 1989. Besides Mamoru Oshii's 1995 theatrical film, numerous other anime adaptations were released, including Stand Alone Complex and SAC_2045. However, the new announcement does not name a specific manga storyline to be adapted.
The production plans to share further information through the official channels of Bandai Namco Filmworks. The move is also another example of the importance of established anime studios, whose development was also central to the reorganization of several KADOKAWA studios.
