Fungus and Iron: Second Teaser Visual and Studio Revealed
Keitaro Motonaga directs, and the animation is produced by Yokohama Animation Lab.

The TV anime "Fungus and Iron" (菌と鉄) has received a second teaser visual; at the same time, director Keitaro Motonaga and Yokohama Animation Lab have been confirmed as the responsible animation studio. The announcement still does not name an air date or a German streaming partner.
As Anime!Anime! reports, the new visual shows protagonist Dante from behind as he stands before a colossal opponent. The white fungal threads in the image directly pick up the central idea of the source: humanity lives in a society controlled by fungus-like organisms, in which the world government Amigasa suppresses freedom, thoughts and feelings.
Dante initially serves as a soldier of this order, but as an anomaly he retains his own consciousness. Outside the controlled system, he encounters the resistance organization Ether, which opposes the existing rule with the power of iron. The official anime website accordingly describes the story as a dystopian sci-fi struggle between control by "fungus" and rebellion through "iron".
Keitaro Motonaga Directs
Keitaro Motonaga takes over direction, while Yokohama Animation Lab produces the animation. Regarding the adaptation, Motonaga explains that the production aims to preserve the strengths of the manga source and to make Dante's development visible over the course of the story. No further details on cast, episode count or broadcast were published with the new visual.
In parallel, the manga by Ayaka Katayama is nearing its conclusion. According to Anime!Anime!, the final chapter appears on September 9, 2026, in the October issue of "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine". The tenth and final collected volume is announced for October 8. The new anime production news thus coincides directly with the end of the source. A similar constellation of a completed manga and an already announced anime adaptation currently also exists for "Mii-chan to Yamada-san".
For "Fungus and Iron" itself, it remains open for now when the TV series will start and whether it will soon be available in simulcast in Germany.
