Code Geass: Hoshi Oi no Aspal will receive an event theatrical release in Japan in 2027. At the same time, the production team is releasing a new main visual, first scene images, and details about the plot and the two main characters. Preview screenings are planned for January 2027 in five major Japanese cities; specific venues and dates will follow.

Storyline in the Roman Empire

The story takes place in the fictional year 606 of the so-called divine calendar. Under Emperor Phocas, the people of the Roman Empire suffer oppression and several wars against neighboring states. In the city of Neapolis lives the enslaved boy Aspal, who cannot remember his past. One day he meets Zoe, a mysterious woman who survives only as a head. This encounter forms the starting point of the new story.

Aiban Shibata voices Aspal and Hibiku Yamamura voices Zoe in the lead roles. In addition, Chronos, a new mechanical type from the series of so-called Agarmata, was presented. The announced images thus offer a more concrete first look into the world of the production, which was already unveiled in 2025.

Production and Theatrical Release

Sunrise is responsible for the original concept, planning, and animation. Kazuya Nomura directs, Mado Nozaki handles series composition, and Rolua is responsible for character design. Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi are named for the original story idea; both were already involved in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. The music comes from Taro Iwashiro.

The event release for 2027 specifies the previous announcement, which only named the year of the launch. A precise list of theaters, the regular release format outside Japan, and a German release date are currently not available.

The project is part of the 20th anniversary of Code Geass. The original started in 2006. Other Sunrise productions are also currently in the spotlight of anime coverage, including the Netflix adaptation Fool Night and two mecha projects that aninew has already reported on: the joint visual for VOTOMS and Rakuen Tsuiho and the title song for the new VOTOMS theatrical film.
