"Chou Kaguya-hime!" has passed the milestone of 3 billion yen in cinema earnings in Japan. According to Oricon, total cinema admissions now exceed 1.5 million; the re-release alone, running from September 18 to 23, brought in around 365 million yen.

The renewed theatrical run began on September 18 with regular screenings as well as MX4D, 4DX, SCREENX, ULTRA 4DX and Dolby Atmos. For the weekend of September 18 to 20, the film landed in sixth place in Japan's audience charts, according to data from Kogyo Tsushinsha cited by Oricon and MANTANWEB. This pushes its earnings significantly higher than after the first theatrical run, which had ended in June at around 2.7 billion yen.

The cinema return of "Chou Kaguya-hime!" had originally been announced as a new release phase featuring several special formats. The film had previously premiered worldwide on Netflix on January 22 and initially came to 19 Japanese cinemas from February 20 for just one week. Due to demand, the run was extended and expanded to more than 100 venues.

Netflix Film Remains in Demand in Cinemas

Director Shingo Yamashita presents his first feature-length film with "Chou Kaguya-hime!." The animation is produced by Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato. In terms of content, the film combines the Kaguya-hime story with the virtual world Tsukuyomi and music by producers such as ryo, kz, 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra and yuigot.

The cinema figures are especially striking because the film remains available worldwide on Netflix and has meanwhile also been released on Blu-ray. In parallel, the production is expanding the project beyond cinemas: on September 25, the tutorial area of the virtual Tsukuyomi world opens in VRChat, as aninew.de has already reported in the article "VR-Tsukuyomi opens on September 25".
