Chou Kaguya-hime!: Cinema Return Starts September 18
Ahead of the re-release in regular and special formats, new visitor bonuses have been announced; the first cinema run reached more than 1.2 million visitors.
"Chou Kaguya-hime!" returns to Japanese cinemas on September 18, 2026, and receives separate visitor bonuses for the different screening formats. Alongside the regular re-release, the anime film will also run in MX4D, 4DX, SCREENX, ULTRA 4DX and Dolby Atmos.
Anime!Anime! reports that the regular version, MX4D and Dolby Atmos will receive an A5 illustration board featuring the newly drawn "Fanatic Omatsuri Girl" artwork from September 18 to 24. For 4DX, a paper clip with a motif from the "ray Chou Kaguya-hime! Version" will be handed out instead; SCREENX and ULTRA 4DX will get a gold-accented sticker with a film scene.
More Than 1.2 Million Cinema Visitors
The first Japanese cinema run began on February 20, 2026, initially as a screening limited to one week. According to Anime!Anime!, the cumulative visitor count rose to more than 1.2 million; the run was extended until June 18. KAI-YOU had recently cited a box office take of more than 2.7 billion yen for this first round.
The formats also remain distinct after the main feature. In the regular version and with Dolby Atmos, the music video "Reply" follows afterward. MX4D, 4DX, SCREENX and ULTRA 4DX, by contrast, show "ray Chou Kaguya-hime! Version", each with a presentation adapted to the format.
Anime!Anime! also names new cinema merchandise and an official history book with early planning materials, storyboards and material on the music videos. These products accompany the re-release but are not part of a new film version.
Special Formats After the First Cinema Run
KAI-YOU was able to see the ULTRA 4DX version during the final coordination with production staff. The format combines movable 4DX seats and physical effects with SCREENX, which extends the image onto side walls.
The film is the feature-length directorial debut of Shingo Yamashita. Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato produced the animation; since January 2026 the film has been available worldwide via Netflix.
On aninew.de, "Chou Kaguya-hime!" recently also made headlines because of a staff doujinshi and measures against resellers. Previously, a second Oshi no Ko collaboration video with MEM-cho was also published.
