Chou Kaguya-hime!: Staff Book Aims to Curb Reseller Markups
Production is considering including the 88-page staff book distributed at Comic Market in an official product in the future.
The official production of "Chou Kaguya-hime!" is responding to high-priced resales of a staff doujinshi distributed at Comic Market 108. As KAI-YOU reports, the team is considering making the book available in the future as part of an official product.
The volume is "Chou Kaguya-hime! Otsukaresama Hon," an 88-page, fully colored illustration book with contributions from 93 members of the production team. It was published by the circle Pancake Octopus, centered on animation producer Kazuma Momohara of Studio Colorido, and offered for 3,000 yen on August 15 at Comic Market 108 in Tokyo.
After the event, according to KAI-YOU, the book appeared on resale platforms such as Mercari at significantly higher prices. Individual listings reached roughly 10,000 to just under 20,000 yen, about three to six times the original price. The film's official account then stated that it had noticed such high-priced listings and was considering a countermeasure.
PDF Already Available for Free
Even before the current statement, the circle had responded to criticism of the limited availability. After Comic Market, a PDF version of the staff book was released free of charge and is to remain accessible until July 31, 2027. A possible inclusion in an upcoming official product would therefore primarily be aimed at readers who want to own a printed edition.
"Chou Kaguya-hime!" is an original anime film by Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, directed by Shingo Yamashita. The film premiered worldwide on Netflix in January 2026 and subsequently also played in Japanese cinemas. Another recent item about the film was the second collaboration video with "Oshi no Ko".
Which official release might contain the staff book, and when it will appear, has not yet been announced. According to KAI-YOU, details of the planned measure are to follow later.
