Ten years after the cinema release of Your Name., Makoto Shinkai recalls the film and publishes an early draft for a teaser poster from 2015. As Anime!Anime! reports, the director shared the drawing on his official X account on August 26, 2026, and thanked everyone who has watched the film over the past ten years.

Your Name. opened in cinemas in Japan on August 26, 2016. The film tells the story of Taki and Mitsuha, a boy and a girl who repeatedly find themselves in each other's bodies in their dreams. According to Anime!Anime!, the film earned ¥25.03 billion in Japan and became the work that made Shinkai's name known to a much larger international audience.

For the production, Shinkai worked with, among others, animation director Masashi Ando and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka. According to the director, the poster draft now shown was already created in autumn 2015. It depicts a comet scene that anticipates the central motif of the later film.

No anniversary event, but a new film is in the works

According to Shinkai, a dedicated event for the tenth anniversary is currently not planned. At the same time, he again confirms that his production team is working on a new film. The director describes working on the film as still difficult and uncertain after ten years, yet also as appealing.

This fits the development already known: Makoto Shinkai's new feature film is officially in production. Crunchyroll has acquired the distribution rights for this project outside Asia; Sony Pictures is reportedly involved in the international theatrical release.

Shinkai does not name a title or release date for the new film in his anniversary post. The current look back at Your Name. therefore mainly offers a rare insight into the film's early visual development and at the same time confirms that Shinkai's next cinema project is still in progress.
