Tenmaku no Jaadugar: Mongolia research shown in video
Naoko Yamada and Abel Gongora traveled with the production team to original filming locations in Mongolia.

The production team of “Tenmaku no Jaadugar” conducted on-site research in Mongolia for the TV anime series. Chief director Naoko Yamada, director Abel Gongora and other team members visited, among other places, museums, historical sites and families who live in traditional gers.
For the production, the trip is more than background material. On the series' official website, producer Kazuki Endo describes how the team traveled to Mongolia together with Yamada, Gongora and staff from the background art department. Spending a night with people who live as nomads in a ger was especially formative. It allowed the team to directly experience their everyday lives.
Research for depicting the 13th century
“Tenmaku no Jaadugar” is set in the 13th century and is based on the manga of the same name by Tomato Soup. The story centers on Sitara, whose life is fundamentally changed by the expansion of the Mongol Empire. The anime production therefore tries not to take historical and cultural details only from secondary material.
According to Endo, the team also reviewed museum holdings and written sources, but wanted equally to develop a feeling for the landscape, way of life and spatial conditions. According to the production, experiences from the trip feed into staging, backgrounds and cultural depiction. The official website also points to close coordination with manga author Tomato Soup and to support from specialists on historical questions.
The series is produced by Science SARU. Naoko Yamada is involved as chief director, and Abel Gongora directs; Kenichi Yoshida is responsible for character design and animation. The TV broadcast has been running in Japan since July 2026.
