"Tanuki to Kitsune" premieres on Japanese television on October 4, 2026, and has unveiled a new PV along with its main cast. Misaki Kuno voices Tanuki and Nao Toyama takes on Kitsune. The series airs Sundays at 7 a.m. in the "Animori!" programming block across six stations of the TV Tokyo network.

As Anime!Anime! and Frontier Works announce, the ensemble also includes Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ookami, Maria Naganawa as the narrator and Usagi, and Takuma Nagatsuka as Kuma and also Usagi. The anime adaptation is based on Atamoto's full-color comic about the easygoing Tanuki and the headstrong Kitsune, who live together in the mountains.

The new PV features the main cast

Alongside the cast announcement, a new official PV has been released. Frontier Works links the upload directly in its official announcement; the video shows Tanuki, Kitsune and the series' other animals in short everyday scenes.

This video will only connect to YouTube once you play it.

Tommy Hino directs, and Rika Kihara wrote the script. Akatsuki Media Studio is responsible for the animation. The current announcement confirms the Japanese premiere date and broadcasters, but does not name a streaming partner for Germany.

"Tanuki to Kitsune" is thus one of several new autumn anime starting in early October. The TV anime "Shirotan", likewise focused on cute animal characters, begins as early as October 3. On the same day as "Tanuki to Kitsune," October 4, "TANK CHAIR" also airs on Japanese television.

The TV adaptation follows an earlier short anime version of the material. For the new series, the announcements read so far do not yet state an episode count or a running time per episode.
