Madoka Magica: Wasa with Maaya Sakamoto in the New PV
Aniplex introduces the new character as a mysterious returnee, and a new key visual by Ume Aoki appears at the same time.

"Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht Rising-" officially introduces the new character Wasa: Maaya Sakamoto takes on the role, and a new PV shows more extended scenes featuring her for the first time. Aniplex published the character information and the current video on September 12, 2026.
In the official description, Wasa is listed as a "nameless upperclassman." She was once carried on by the "Law of Cycles," but now returns to the present world through Nazuka Sokone. Her actual identity remains unknown within the story. Particularly striking is her strong resemblance to Homura Akemi; Aniplex also describes her as aloof and with a distinctive way of speaking.
Anime!Anime! additionally names two added cast entries: Yoshino Aoyama voices "Girl A," and Ryoko Shintani returns as Hitomi Shizuki. The film has been playing in Japanese cinemas since August 28, 2026 and continues the story of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion." The animation is again produced by Shaft; Gen Urobuchi writes the screenplay, and Ume Aoki is responsible for the original character design.
New PV and Third Key Visual
The official PV contains new film scenes and shows Wasa in motion. Aniplex links the video directly via the official film website:
This video will only connect to YouTube once you play it.
In parallel, a third key visual drawn by Ume Aoki was released. The reveal follows a few days after another milestone for the film: "Walpurgisnacht Rising" surpassed 1.5 billion yen after ten days. Already at the cinema release, aninew had also reported on the new Shaft motif featuring Madoka and Homura.
For Germany, the official announcements and the Anime!Anime! report currently name no cinema release. Accordingly, the current release remains limited to the Japanese cinema market for now.
