Haru to Gen: TV Anime Premieres January 4, 2027

The TV anime Haru to Gen: 70-sai, Hajimete no Kosodate premieres on January 4, 2027 on Japanese television. The production has released a first teaser, the key visual, and the three main voice cast members. The series tells the story of a 70-year-old grandfather who unexpectedly takes on responsibility for his three-year-old granddaughter.

Grandfather Gen Must Learn Family Life Anew

Gen is 70 years old and, after a divorce, has largely withdrawn from his family. His earlier life was shaped by work. When his daughter Sakura dies, he takes in her three-year-old daughter Haru. Gen has hardly any experience with small children and must adjust to a daily life in which his granddaughter's needs matter more than his former habits.

The manga source comes from Yuka Oshima and is published by KADOKAWA. Her story focuses on the coexistence of two generations: Haru is curious and full of energy, while Gen initially appears clumsy and strict. The teaser shows the two in everyday situations and introduces their contrasting personalities.

Cast and Production Team

Bin Shimada takes on the role of grandfather Gen. Hiromi Igarashi voices Haru, while Mayuko Kazama portrays her late mother Sakura. The voice actors commented on the new adaptation in the official announcement; further cast members are to be announced later.

Direction is handled by Kodai Sato, and the music is composed by bermei.inazawa. Imagica Infos / Imageworks Studio is responsible for animation production, supported by Studio Nanahoshi. The project belongs to the joint anime offering Animation ID from Imagica Infos and Dai Nippon Printing.

Broadcast Starting January 2027

The Japanese broadcaster tvk (Television Kanagawa) will air the first episode on January 4, 2027 at 9 PM Japan time. Weekly broadcasts on Mondays are planned afterward. Information about a Japanese streaming release is to follow. A German streaming provider and the number of episodes have not yet been announced.

Family life plays different roles in other anime as well, such as in a special Crayon Shin-chan episode about the parents Hiroshi and Misae. Another family-friendly Japanese TV project is the Shirotan anime that premiered in October.
