"Shin Gekijoban Gintama: Yoshiwara Daienjo" returns to Japanese cinemas on September 25, 2026, in a revised "Super Enjo Edition." Anime!Anime! reports that the new version visually reworks more than 200 shots of the film, which premiered in February.

According to Bandai Namco Pictures, the plot remains unchanged. Among the elements reworked are the characters' facial expressions and textures, action sequences, camerawork and lighting. New scenes, changes to the sound or an extended running time are explicitly not part of the new version.

More Than 200 Shots Reworked

The theatrical film is based on the "Yoshiwara in Flames" arc from Hideaki Sorachi's "Gintama." The original version opened in Japan on February 13, 2026. Naoya Ando directs, the screenplay comes from Taku Kishimoto, and Shinji Takeuchi handles character design and overall animation direction. Animation is produced by BN Pictures.

The "Super Enjo Edition" is therefore not a new sequel but a technically and visually revised re-release of the same film. No release outside Japan was mentioned in the available announcements.

As the first visitor bonus, four newly drawn shikishi boards will be handed out from September 25, marking Gintoki Sakata's birthday on October 10. The illustrations are by members of the animation team and show, among others, Gintoki with characters from Yoshiwara, the Joi group, the Shinsengumi and the Yorozuya.

A stage event in Shinjuku is also planned for September 26, to be simultaneously broadcast to further Japanese cinemas. Announced participants include voice actors Tomokazu Sugita, Daisuke Sakaguchi and Rie Kugimiya, as well as producer Takashi Maekawa.
