Frieren: Mahjong Soul Announces New Anime Collaboration
The official anime website confirms the collaboration. The Mahjong Soul account is expected to publish information on the release date and playable characters later.
The TV anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is getting a collaboration with the online mahjong game Mahjong Soul (Japanese: Jantama). The official anime website confirmed the collaboration on October 29, 2026 and refers to the game's official account for future information.
Release Date and Characters Not Yet Known
The official announcement only confirms that the collaboration will take place. No start date is given there. Likewise, there is no information on which characters from Frieren will appear in the game, whether special game modes are planned, or which items may become available.
The announcement visual published so far combines the logos of Mahjong Soul and Frieren. It cannot yet be concluded from this that Frieren, Fern, or Stark are already planned as playable characters. The announcement also does not explicitly promise a release on particular regional servers. Further details are to follow via the official Japanese Mahjong Soul account.
Mahjong Soul Has Experience With Anime Collaborations
Mahjong Soul is a competitive online game centered on Japanese Riichi mahjong. As Anime!Anime! reported on October 29, the game, operated by Yostar, is offered on iOS, Android, Windows, and in web browsers. The editorial team also confirms that the timeframe and specific content of the Frieren collaboration are not yet known. The publishers have previously integrated anime series into the game environment. For Sword Art Online, for example, they held the official tournament AINCRAD MAHJONGSOUL ONLINE in April 2026. Its program included online qualifying rounds and a final with professional mahjong players. However, this does not establish any confirmed content for the newly announced Frieren collaboration.
For the anime series itself, the collaboration is another appearance outside the television series. Recently, a Frieren exhibition featuring new manga drawings and a glamping collaboration in Japan were, among others, made known. Other anime brands are also being integrated into games, such as the announced Precure crossover with Street Fighter 6.
The anime website also already names October 2027 as the date for the third television season. This date belongs to the anime continuation and is not an announced start date for the Mahjong Soul collaboration.
