Fairy Tail: Re:Fantasia has started as a short-run series
Hiro Mashima returns to Weekly Shonen Magazine himself for the anniversary project.

"FAIRY TAIL RE" launched in Weekly Shonen Magazine on July 29, 2026. Hiro Mashima both draws and writes the new short-run series himself; it is one of the projects marking the 20th anniversary of "Fairy Tail".
The first chapter appears in issue 35/2026 of the magazine and receives a placement at the beginning of the issue along with color pages. Anime!Anime! reported on the launch, covering Mashima's return and the reactions of Japanese readers. Weekly Shonen Magazine confirmed July 29 as the release date and explicitly describes the project as a short serialization.
Return for the 20th anniversary
The original "Fairy Tail" manga also began in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2006 and ended in 2017. With "Re", Mashima thus returns directly to the magazine and the series without replacing the ongoing sequel "Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest". The new project is designed as a standalone anniversary story.
The official information still did not specify a precise scope. Confirmed are the title, the start in issue 35/2026, Mashima's responsibility for the new story, and its classification as a time-limited series. No details on a later collected edition have been published so far.
Kodansha is also accompanying the launch with a three-week campaign in which Japan-only designed QUO cards are being raffled. Participation requires a residence and a delivery address in Japan and is therefore not regularly accessible to readers in German-speaking countries.
An official German or international simultaneous release of "FAIRY TAIL RE" has not yet been announced. For now, it remains open when the new story will become legally available outside Japan's Weekly Shonen Magazine. Other current manga news concerns, among other things, the announced hiatus of Yuru Camp△ and mono.
