Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro is currently looking into allegations surrounding visitor bonuses for "Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu". The cinema is responding to posts spreading on social networks that suggest possible improper handling of the limited cinema bonuses. Such a process has not been confirmed so far.

As TV Asahi reported on September 9, the official X account of Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro states that the facts are currently being examined. In addition, the cinema has brought in a lawyer to assess the legal situation. Should the content of the circulating posts prove accurate, the company intends to respond consistently in line with its internal rules. If the claims are false, the cinema is also considering legal action.

The core of the allegations thus remains expressly unresolved. Any involvement by employees or passing on of visitor bonuses is not confirmed as a fact at this point.

Limited Figures Since September 5

The discussion concerns an ongoing bonus campaign for the first Chiikawa theatrical film. According to Anime!Anime!, the fourth round of visitor rewards has been distributed since September 5, 2026. Cinema visitors receive one of four randomly selected Charm mini figures featuring Shima Jiro, Siren, Hitoha or Futaba. The quantity is limited.

Demand for the film extras has been high since the release. After 45 days, the film stands at 13.9 billion yen and recently again topped the Japanese box office charts, as aninew.de reported in its article "Chiikawa Movie: 13.9 Billion Yen and Back at No. 1".

The current case also follows only a few days after a separate incident at Kura Sushi. There, a Chiikawa campaign was ended early after confirmed misconduct by the company's own employees. The background is covered in the article "Chiikawa: Kura Sushi Ends Campaign After Employee Violation". Unlike that case, however, Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro so far has only an ongoing review.
