The Apothecary Diaries: First Console Game Coming in 2027

"The Apothecary Diaries" receives its first console game with "The Apothecary Diaries: Itsuwari no Koutei." The mystery adventure is set to release in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam; the original story is based on an idea by author Natsu Hyuga.

Maomao Investigates Five Mysterious Incidents

The official game website sets the storyline at a time when Maomao has only recently begun working as a palace lady. Incidents referred to as the "five riddles" are piling up in the rear palace. Jinshi tasks Maomao with investigating them. Later, during a visit to her homeland, she encounters the traveling actor Ganyu.

After the rebellion of the Shi clan, rumors of "five curses" also spread through the capital. At one crime scene, Maomao sees a masked man who appears as the emperor's brother. The story connects these events with a new conspiracy and is not a retelling of the previous anime plot.

In terms of gameplay, the adventure follows Maomao's way of working. Clues are gathered through exploration and questioning, and ingredients can be found and medicines prepared. Information is then organized and linked together into conclusions. In conversations, appropriate evidence must be presented; according to the official system description, wrong answers can lower the trust of conversation partners.

Gust and TOHO Games Develop the Adventure

TOHO Games and the Gust label of Koei Tecmo Games are working on the production. The first announcement thus reveals a standalone game project tied to the anime adaptation, not merely a side project for mobile devices.

For the series itself, the next anime date is already set: Season 3 premieres on October 2. In addition, a live-action series on Prime Video is planned for 2028. The information published so far does not give an exact release date or any details about a German localization of the console game.
