“Sword Art Online Material 1: Sugary Days” releases in Japan on August 7, 2026. The new light novel by Reki Kawahara is published by Dengeki Bunko and focuses on Kirito and Asuna during their time as a newly married couple in Aincrad.

The book runs 264 pages and costs ¥880 in Japan. The illustrations once again come from abec, who has shaped the series visually since its beginning. KADOKAWA lists the ISBN as 978-4-04-952437-6.

A Story from Aincrad

The plot begins at the start of the conquest of Aincrad's 75th floor. By this point, Kirito and Asuna have confirmed their feelings for each other and married. The focus is on their shared life away from the immediate frontline battles.

According to the official description, Asuna wants a custom rocking chair. Kirito and Asuna therefore seek out the experienced woodworking player Mahokuru. The commission, however, leads the two into an unexpected situation. The publisher has not revealed further plot details ahead of the release.

“Sugary Days” is released as the first volume of the “Sword Art Online Material” series. The title thus picks up an episode centered on the relationship between Kirito and Asuna within the original Aincrad story arc. Author Reki Kawahara and illustrator abec remain responsible for the volume in their familiar roles.

A German release has not yet been announced. A digital or print edition for the German-speaking market is also not currently listed on the official product page. The Japanese volume can be purchased through retailers from August 7.
