Shozen: TV anime premieres in April 2027

The TV anime "Shozen" premieres in April 2027 on Fuji TV and other Japanese broadcasters. At the same time, the first regular PV has been released, in which the main characters Shozen and Dozen, along with several companions, appear and can be heard in more detail for the first time.

The series is based on the Chinese manga by Jiangjia Meizi, published via Bilibili Manga. At its center is the wandering Daoist priest Dozen. He encounters a human girl who was raised by yokai, gives her the name Shozen, and takes her along on his journey as his apprentice. Shozen barely knows human emotions or affection at first and is meant to learn during their journey what good and evil mean.

Cast and Production

Rina Kawaguchi voices Shozen, while Hiroshi Kamiya can be heard as Dozen. The further cast includes Daisuke Sakuma as Ryojin, Aoi Yuki as Kensei, and Ayumu Murase as Chiro. The new PV introduces these characters and at the same time shows battles against yokai as well as the fantasy world shaped by mountains, bamboo forests, and temples.

Itsuro Kawasaki is directing and writing the scripts. Eri Osada is responsible for character design and chief animation direction, and Yoshihiro Kanno for action direction. The animation is a co-production of Dangan Pictures and Cannon Code. The official website names April 2027 for the first time as a specific start month; an exact air date and a German streaming partner have not yet been determined.

"Shozen" thus belongs to the anime adaptations of 2027 that already have a more precise schedule. Also announced for 2027 is "Mii-chan to Yamada-san", whose production recently confirmed additional expert consultation.
