MechaComic: City Hunter and Tokyo Revengers celebrate 20 years
For the anniversary, the mangaka are unveiling new illustrations, including a piece featuring Ryo and Kaori from City Hunter.

The Japanese manga service MechaComic celebrates its 20th anniversary on November 2, 2026, with new artwork from well-known mangaka. Tsukasa Hojo, creator of City Hunter, and Ken Wakui, author of Tokyo Revengers, are among the artists who contributed illustrated congratulations made specifically for the anniversary.
New illustrations from four manga artists
The operating company presents the anniversary images on a dedicated special page. Hojo's piece shows Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura from City Hunter in a humorous scene with a giant mallet and a reference to the 20-year anniversary.
Ken Wakui also contributed a drawing featuring characters from Tokyo Revengers. Other published contributions come from Ema Toyama, the artist of Iwahada no Hanayome wa Ai de Tokasareru, and Ao Mimori, known for Dakishimete Tsuideni Kiss mo. Regarding Tokyo Revengers, aninew.de also reports on the Three Deities arc on Disney+.
Twenty years of digital manga
MechaComic launched in November 2006. The service enables digital reading of manga via browser and app and, alongside well-known series, also publishes its own works. For the anniversary, the company has compiled historical annual rankings, which show how reader interest has shifted over time.
The selected examples include Attack on Titan as the top title in the male manga category for 2014 and Demon Slayer for 2020. In the category for female readership, MechaComic names, among others, Aoshima-kun wa Ijiwaru and Mystery to Iu Nakare. A further look at manga reading habits can be found in the latest manga survey.
Anniversary campaign in Japan
Alongside this, MechaComic is offering a one-time half-price discount on selected digital chapters and volumes from November 2 to 20. Users with purchases up to August 31, 2026 also receive a personal review of their own reading history. The campaign is tied to the Japanese service and is not an announcement of a German release.
Such anniversary illustrations are also a distinct part of manga culture beyond the shop. Another collection of artists' works documents the Meiji anniversary campaign with drawings from Frieren and NANA.
